I’m Jill Walker, founder of Little Brown’s, an independent Yorkshire interior design and property styling studio.
I combine creative thinking with practical experience to create spaces that feel considered, individual and right for the people or market they are designed for. My relationship with interiors began long before Little Brown’s, shaped by years of working with properties, an appreciation of architecture and interiors, and a fascination with the character and detail that give buildings their identity.
From renovation and antiques to salvage, vintage finds and travel, I have always been drawn to the visual language of a place — its colour, materials, proportion, texture and atmosphere — and how these elements can translate into a distinctive sense of home, allowing us to tell our own story.
In 2007, I studied Interior Design at the National Design Academy and went on to establish Tigerlily Interiors, working across private residential projects and with new-build developers. The business brought together furniture, fabrics, bespoke soft furnishings and specialist makers, giving me valuable experience in developing interiors from concept through to completion.
Later, I returned to education, completing a BA in Art & Design followed by a Masters in Creative Practice. This developed my critical thinking and ability to challenge conventional ideas, while strengthening my eye for composition, materiality, balance and narrative — and bringing a more considered, distinctive approach to interiors.
Beyond the Obvious.
My Approach.
Every project starts with listening. I want to understand how you live, what you love and what you need from your space.
Existing furniture, artwork, period features and much-loved possessions can all have a place. Equally, a blank canvas can offer the opportunity to create something from the ground up. I look at what is already there, what could work better and where a change could make the greatest difference.
Through careful discussion, I will create a space that feels considered, personal and right for you — whether that means a subtle refresh, a complete transformation or preparing a property to show its potential.
Yorkshire rooted, Outward looking.
Little Brown’s is rooted in Yorkshire, but inspiration can come from anywhere. Architecture, independent makers, galleries, vintage finds, travel, materials, colour and the details of everyday places all feed into the way I see interiors.
I’m interested in spaces with character rather than interiors that look as though they have been lifted straight from a catalogue — although a more polished, coordinated look can be just as right for a particular project. It is about making considered choices. Old and new can sit together. Something inherited can work beside something contemporary. A room can be calm without being bland and colourful without becoming chaotic.
The aim is always the same: to create something that feels right for the space and the people using it.
